The criticality of quality management in building corporate resilience in a post recession period

    Abstract

    Purpose – This paper explores different recession recovery strategies pursued by companies and/or suggested for application to combat recession and critically analyzes these to ascertain the extent to which inherent quality management constructs are pivotal in building strategic resilience. Design/Methodology/Approach – This article is informed by a literature review of quality management and different recovery strategies pursued and/or suggested for application in different settings as a response to the on-going global recession to build strategic resilience. These strategies are then scrutinized to extract inherent quality management constructs that points to the centrality of quality management in building corporate resilience. Findings – Quality management is central to any effective post-recession strategy and ingenious multi-pronged quality management approaches must be simultaneously pursued with new innovations and creativity to fight-off recession. Ultimately, continued commitment to excellence should contribute to fortifying corporate resilience. Originality –The paper synthesizes diverse strategies being applied to fend off recession and establishes the centrality of quality management in such initiatives.
