Abstract
At a time when police forces are reducing community engagement in efforts to arrest their way out of the current crisis in public confidence in policing, this article argues in favour of increasing engagement with all communities to prevent crime and thereby reduce demand. Engagement has been shown to improve trust & confidence, improve intelligence gathering, prevent serious crime including terrorism and also support recruitment from diverse communities.
