Abstract
Artist book-films for BABE
Bristol Artists Book Event in the Arnolfini Gallery.
(Due to ongoing Covid restrictions this is an online event)
Over 70 artists and small-presses have created new films for BABE 2021, to showcase their work. Ranging from recorded talks from Australia to Mexico about international collections and exhibitions, through documentation of printing processes, to book-based performances and experimental short films, this is an amazing set of creative responses to what ‘digitising a book’, or ‘online reading’ might mean.

This short film shows the working methods from concept through to completion of the artist's book Piano Lessons. The concertina book is satirical in tone showing increasingly frustrated hands attempting to play complicated music. The film shows how the rubber stamps are planned, cut and printed on the vintage pianola roll paper and includes descriptions of the decisions and processes involved in the production of this limited edition.
