Phenomenology

Phenomenology is both a philosophy and a method and it has secured a place in many disciplinary fields in the humanities and social sciences. The term is generally employed to describe developments in philosophy that have their roots in the early twentieth century. Within the social sciences, and sociology in particular, phenomenology is associated with innovative forms of theorizing, sometimes described as “social phenomenology,” as well as various approaches to research focused on exploring perception, interpretation, and meaning-making from the perspective of subjects engaged in forms of social interaction.
