N2 - The paper presents results from collaboration with the University of Siegen funded by the British Council and DAAD. For the first time metallic foam/cement interface was assessed under mixed mode loading conditions, and the results compared with those from bovine/cement interface. The work has implications on the use of artificial materials to build controlled morphologies to interface with cement, an advantage native materials lack, so that morphological variables may be specifically assessed.
