    Abstract

The "Vision of Britain" web site's aim has been to computerize and then integrate varied systematic surveys of Britain to create, primarily, a powerful representation of the nation's diverse localities. Among the sources, the Census of Population is the most important one. "Vision of Britain" is not only a useful reference for genealogists or casual enquirers about local history but also a powerful research aid for those interested in historical local population studies.
