    Abstract

Recounts how the British Quality Foundation believes the Excellence Model developed by the European Foundation for Quality Management can benefit businesses. Depicts the five 'enabler' and four 'results' components of the Model, and outlines eight 'fundamental concepts of excellence' embedded in it. Provides a listing of frequently-asked-questions with answers. Emphasizes assessment and review are key processes for Model use, which generate areas for improvement to be addressed by an action plan. States there are many ways to undertake self-assessment but determining the right approach depends on an organization's understanding of excellence, effort to be allocated, outcomes desired, and ability to act on the outcomes.
