I am the Associate Head for Research and Innovation within the School of Sport, Health and Exercise Science. Through this role I lead our strategic approach to the development of Research and Innovation activities that are aligned the unique expertise and facilities housed within the School. In addition, I am the Theme Lead for the Extreme Environments Group. I regularly deliver invited talks at both national and international external organisations and review for various funding bodies and journals. I am on the Editorial Board of The Physiological Society’s journal “Experimental Physiology” and a methodological Editor with the ''Cochrane Collaboration''.

I joined the School of Sport, Health and Exercise Science at the University of Portsmouth, initially as a Postdoctoral Fellow, in 2015 before being appointed as a Lecturer in Exercise Physiology in 2016, and then Senior Lecturer in 2017. Prior to joining the School, I completed my PhD at the University of Limerick, Ireland (2008-2012) and three years of Postdoctoral research at Queensland University of Technology, Australia (2012-2015).

My primary research interests are directed toward understanding the physiological effects of various stressors (e.g. heat, cold, and hypoxia) on human performance. I have a particular interest in exploring the mechanisms responsible for a decrement in performance, both physical and cognitive, following exposure to these extreme environments.
